COUNSELING/MENTAL HEALTH SERVICES:

Provides mental health crisis services; counseling and therapy; psychiatric services; social services; substance use services; trauma recovery services; education and advocacy. Offers school-based services for children and adolescents including counseling/therapy and SASS (Screening, Assessment and Support Services).

The Family Institute at Northwestern University: 618 Library Place; Evanston, IL 60201 (Headquarters); 847-733-4300 Additional locations are found in Chicago, Northbrook and LaGrange Park. A team of psychotherapists specializes in working with children and adolescents regarding a range of issues including anxiety, depression, grief and loss, LGBT issues, behavior problems, etc. The Bette D. Harris Family and Child Clinic offers a sliding fee scale.

Serves a range of communities by acting as a liaison for schools, senior centers and communities who need their educational help. Haven provides 24-hour crisis intervention; counseling services for teens and families; daily outreach within New Trier High School and Washburne Middle School; and emergency housing for adolescents. http://havenforyouth.org/

Collaborates closely with community resources, including schools, agencies and physicians. Assists children and adolescents with adjustment to family stressors, peer and social difficulties, medical conditions, psychiatric conditions, etc.

Offers a range of outpatient mental health services including psychotherapy, psychiatric services and medication services. Expect up to a week wait for an intake appointment, and an additional 4-6 weeks to begin services. http://www.josselyn.org/

Provides individual, family and group counseling; a 24-hour crisis line; case management; medication support; adult and adolescent substance abuse services (e.g., counseling, outpatient treatment, psychiatric evaluations, etc.). Maine Center is a non-profit organization that serves residents of Des Plaines, Park Ridge, Niles, Chicago, Mt. Offers family, group and individual counseling for youth encountering emotional and behavioral difficulties. OMNI also provides crisis intervention services (i.e., responds to emergency calls from schools, police, clients or families seeking immediate assistance with adolescent or family related problems); diagnostic and assessment services; drug testing services and psychological testing services. Provides individual and/or family therapy to assist children and teens dealing with a range of issues including loss (through death or divorce), anxiety, depression, aggression, isolating and/or being bullied, addictive behaviors such as alcohol or drug abuse, self-harming behavior, etc. Samaritan is a non-profit organization; a sliding fee scale is available.

Offers counseling to children and adolescents ages 4-21 and their families. Womencare uses a strengths-based empowerment model. Treatment may include: play therapy, individual talk therapy, family therapy and a range of creativity-based interventions. Counselors have experience dealing with a range of issues including self-esteem, eating disorders and body image, school phobias, self injury, loss of a family member, etc. http://womencarecounseling.com/

ADOLESCENT SUBSTANCE ABUSE TREATMENT:

Provides age-appropriate and culturally relevant information, education and counseling to help adolescents remain drug-free. The Adolescent Treatment Program at PEER Services offers a variety of early intervention, treatment and supportive services for youth and families (e.g., drug education, counseling, intensive outpatient, referral to residential care/inpatient treatment when needed, etc.). Adolescents admitted to the PEERS program receive individually designed treatment plans; family involvement is strongly encouraged. YOUTH/ADOLESCENT DROP-IN CENTERS:

Provides adult-to-youth mentoring, prevention services, and opportunities for leadership, citizenship and education within a safe, informal environment. The YO is a place for young people to hang out, play pool, air hockey, ping pong and hang out with their friends and the YO staff. Hosts monthly concerts, open mics and other fun events. Serves teens in the community who need a safe, supervised, and substance-free atmosphere. Teens are welcome to come and go as they please, and use the Center in whatever way best suits them. Whether playing pool, painting the walls or chatting on the couch, teens build healthy relationships with staff and peers. Offers various programs including chat sessions, recreation activities, volunteer activities and supportive counseling services.
